"We've grown into completely different people—we're incompatible now."
How it sounds in your head: You married him at twenty-three. You're sixty-six now. He watches Fox News; you can't stand it. You want adventure; he wants his recliner. You barely recognize each other. Maybe you've just outgrown this marriage, evolved past compatibility.
"Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
-- Ecclesiastes 4:12World's teaching that compatibility is discovered, not created—that people 'grow apart' naturally and divorce is the honest response to incompatibility.
Everything you valued at twenty-five feels different now. Retirement revealed how little you have in common when work isn't filling the hours. You want different things, vote differently, dream differently. The person you married seems to have disappeared, replaced by a stranger.
Abigail was intelligent and beautiful; Nabal was harsh and evil—complete opposites. Yet she honored covenant even with a fool, and God intervened with Nabal's death, then gave her David. God didn't need them compatible; He needed her covenant-faithful while HE handled the impossibility.
I REFUSE the lie that differences equal incompatibility. IT IS WRITTEN that a threefold cord is not quickly broken—God is the strand that makes us unbreakable, not our similarity. Our covenant wasn't built on matching personalities; it was built on HIS faithfulness. IT IS WRITTEN that what God has joined, man cannot separate—and 'man' includes our own assessment of compatibility. I am under the BARAK blessing that supernaturally protects covenant regardless of circumstances. God is doing the joining; we do the abiding.
The Father isn't asking you to manufacture compatibility or force alignment—He's weaving Himself as the third strand that makes you unbreakable. While you see two people pulling apart, He sees one covenant He's holding together, and His grip never weakens with time.
