"Wanting financial security in retirement is greedy. I should just trust God and accept whatever comes."
How it sounds in your head: Every time you think about needing more money, you feel guilty. The sermons said 'don't worry about tomorrow' and 'consider the lilies,' so wanting to plan for retirement feels like lack of faith. Real Christians suffer joyfully and don't chase security.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religious teaching weaponized Jesus's words about worry into condemnation for wise planning, making stewardship look like greed and turning provision into pride.
The church celebrated missionaries who 'trusted God' with nothing while treating your desire for retirement security as worldly. You've heard so many teachings against 'the love of money' that any financial desire feels like sin, and accepting struggle feels more spiritual than asking for abundance.
After 400 years of slavery owning NOTHING, God told them to ask Egyptians for silver, gold, and clothing—and God gave them such favor that Egyptians handed over wealth freely. In ONE NIGHT they went from slaves with nothing to wealthy people carrying generational riches—God's idea, not greed.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting financial security is greed or lack of faith. IT IS WRITTEN that the beloved are meant to prosper in ALL things, and Jesus came to give abundant life. My Father isn't glorified by my poverty—He's glorified by my blessing others from overflow. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing makes rich and adds no sorrow. I am not settling for subsistence—I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK covers me with wealth for Kingdom impact. God's will is my prosperity just as my soul prospers, and I receive it without guilt or apology.
The Father isn't frowning at your desire for security—He PUT that desire there because He's a good Father who provides abundantly for His children. He's not asking you to white-knuckle through retirement on fumes while pretending it's faith—He's inviting you into the Deuteronomy 28 blessings that are YOURS by covenant, where He commands blessing on your storehouses and makes you overflow.
