"Vanity about appearance is sinful; I should focus on spiritual things, not my body."
How it sounds in your head: Caring about how you look feels shallow, unspiritual, beneath a man of God. You should be above such earthly concerns. Focusing on your body is carnal, worldly, evidence of misplaced priorities.
"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
-- 1 Corinthians 10:31Religious spirit: False humility creates shame around stewarding God's temple, calling care 'vanity.'
Sermons emphasized 'outward appearance doesn't matter,' spiritual giants seemed to neglect their bodies, and caring about your looks feels like pride. Surely God wants you focused on eternal things.
Scripture notes Joseph was 'handsome in form and appearance'—not rebuked for it but stating FACT. His attractiveness was part of God's story. God doesn't despise physical beauty or care; He CREATED it.
I REFUSE the lie that caring about my body is unspiritual vanity. IT IS WRITTEN that eating, drinking, and everything I do can glorify God—including physical stewardship. IT IS WRITTEN that Joseph's attractiveness was stated without rebuke because God made him that way. My body is Holy Spirit's TEMPLE. I honor it not from pride but from WORSHIP. I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK—blessed in body, coming and going. Father runs toward me celebrating the son who honors His dwelling place with gratitude, not guilt.
Father isn't rolling His eyes at your physical concerns. He MADE your body, dwells in it, and celebrates when you honor His craftsmanship. He's inviting you to care for His temple as an act of WORSHIP, not vanity.
