"Tithing to the church is a scam—pastors just want my money for their lifestyle."
How it sounds in your head: You've seen the megachurch scandals and private jets. Pastors preach tithing but live in mansions while you're struggling. It's manipulation and guilt tactics. Your money would do more good going directly to the homeless guy on the corner.
"How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!'"
-- Romans 10:14-15Enemy: cynicism from real abuses, poisoning legitimate generosity with suspicion and bitterness.
There ARE real scandals—televangelists with mansions, financial abuse in churches. You've watched leaders fall and money get misused. Your skepticism feels like wisdom protecting you from being used.
They gave financially to Paul's ministry multiple times—he called it 'fruit that abounds to your account.' Because they gave to a preacher, Paul declared God would supply ALL their needs according to His riches in glory—instant covenant of provision triggered by their generosity to ministry.
I REFUSE the lie that pastors are scammers manipulating me. IT IS WRITTEN: How shall they preach unless they are sent, and sending requires resourcing. I don't tithe based on human character—Judas was a thief, yet Jesus funded that ministry. I tithe because the Gospel must go forth and IT IS WRITTEN that the laborer is worthy of wages. I am blessed with the BARAK covenant—God protected Abraham even when he LIED, and my obedience isn't conditional on others' perfection. I give to the storehouse, and God deals with the stewards. My obedience releases MY blessing.
The Father sees your legitimate hurt from abuses and whispers, 'I know some stewarded poorly—I'll handle them. But don't let their failure steal YOUR blessing.' He's not asking you to fund corruption; He's inviting you to fund the Gospel, and He's big enough to sort out the rest while ensuring your obedience triggers your harvest.
