"Tithing is an Old Testament law that doesn't apply under grace"
How it sounds in your head: You've studied the Bible long enough to know tithing was part of the Mosaic Law. Jesus fulfilled the law, so you're not bound by it. That money could go to actual needs—your grandkids, your medicine. The church is just guilt-tripping you with outdated theology.
"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."
-- Galatians 3:13-14Religious spirit twisting grace into excuse, making freedom FROM law mean freedom from GENEROSITY.
You've heard teachers say we're not under law and tithing IS mentioned in Leviticus. It sounds spiritually mature to distinguish Old and New Covenant, and keeping that 10% feels more responsible for your actual needs.
Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of ALL the spoils—this was 430 years BEFORE the law was given at Sinai. He tithed by revelation of blessing, not by legal requirement, and the BARAK followed him so powerfully that even when he LIED TWICE, kings got plagued and he left wealthier.
I REFUSE the lie that tithing is dead religious law. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ redeemed me from the CURSE to give me the BLESSING OF ABRAHAM—and Abraham tithed before law existed! I am not giving to fulfill duty; I am giving to ACTIVATE covenant blessing. The same BARAK that protected Abraham when he lied, that multiplied Isaac when he lied, that defended Jacob when he deceived—that blessing is MINE by the blood of Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 9:8 that God is able to make ALL grace abound toward me, that I, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have abundance for every good work. I give under GRACE, which is better than law. I am BLESSED coming in, BLESSED going out!
The Father isn't holding an Old Testament rulebook over you—He's holding out the Abrahamic blessing that says, 'What I gave that liar and deceiver, I give you FREELY through My Son's blood!' He's not asking for compliance; He's inviting you into a covenant so powerful it protected murderers and thieves. You don't tithe to EARN blessing—you tithe because you're ALREADY blessed.
