"They're at peace with aging. I'm terrified of what's coming next and losing more control."
How it sounds in your head: You watch other men seem settled, accepting, at peace with the process. You're terrified—of more decline, of total dependence, of dementia, of losing control of your own body and decisions. They're handling it with grace. You're handling it with fear. Maybe their faith is stronger. Maybe they're better at surrendering. You're just scared.
"Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you."
-- Isaiah 46:4Enemy fear and condemnation for experiencing normal human fear, comparing internal terror to others' external appearance of peace.
Fear of further loss is real and powerful. Seeing others appear calm while experiencing internal terror creates shame about the fear itself, feeling like faith failure.
Peter walked on water in FAITH, then saw the wind and was TERRIFIED and started sinking. Jesus didn't rebuke his fear—He REACHED OUT HIS HAND and caught him. Your fear doesn't disqualify you. His hand is REACHING for you right now, and He will NOT let you sink.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm failing because I'm afraid of what's coming. IT IS WRITTEN: Even to gray hairs, God will CARRY ME. I am not carrying myself—HE IS. IT IS WRITTEN: He will never leave me nor forsake me. My fear doesn't mean weak faith—it means I'm human. God is not condemning my terror—He's CARRYING ME THROUGH IT. I don't compare my internal experience to others' external appearance. I am held, carried, and delivered by the One who made me. Every moment ahead is already in His hands.
The Father sees your terror about what's coming and He's not disappointed—He's reaching out His hand like He did to Peter in the waves. He's whispering 'I will carry you through EVERY moment—not just the ones you handle with calm, but especially the terrifying ones. I'm not waiting for you to find peace—I AM your peace, and I'm holding you right now.'
