"Their families are normal and happy; mine is broken and embarrassing."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone else has parents who are together, who show up, who don't fight. I have to explain why my dad isn't around or why my mom works three jobs or why I live with my grandma. I'm the only one with this mess.
"A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation. God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity."
-- Psalm 68:5-6Enemy accusation using family dysfunction to create shame and separate identity from covenant blessing.
He sees highlight reels of other families on social media and at school events while living the behind-the-scenes chaos of his own. Shame tells him family dysfunction disqualifies him from blessing.
Jephthah was the son of a prostitute, rejected by his half-brothers, driven from home, and disowned by his family. God chose THIS rejected son to deliver Israel and made him a leader—instant elevation from outcast to deliverer.
I REFUSE the lie that my family dysfunction disqualifies me from blessing. IT IS WRITTEN that God is a Father to the fatherless and sets the solitary in families. My identity is NOT determined by who showed up or didn't show up. IT IS WRITTEN that the BARAK blessing is mine by covenant, not family tree. I am grafted into the family of God, adopted with full rights as a son. What my earthly family couldn't provide, my heavenly Father RUNS to give me. I am CHOSEN, not rejected.
Your Father sees your family situation and isn't disappointed in you—He's running toward you with the ROBE and RING of full sonship. You're not defined by who's missing from your life but by WHO IS PRESENT—the God who adopts outcasts and makes them royalty.
