"The people who are supposed to be safe—church, family, close friends—are the most dangerous."
How it sounds in your head: The betrayal came from inside the circle, from someone who knew your passwords and your fears. Now you trust strangers more than 'safe' people because at least with strangers you're already guarded. The ones who were supposed to protect you became the ones you need protection from.
"But Ruth said: 'Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.'"
-- Ruth 1:16-17Enemy's strategy to poison the very wells of safety God established—perverting family, friendship, and faith community into threats.
The statistics are in your lived experience: the pastor who spiritually abused, the friend who gossiped, the family member who violated trust. The closer someone was, the deeper the cut. Now 'safe people' feels like an oxymoron.
Job's 'safe people'—his three closest friends—condemned him for 40 chapters, called his suffering God's judgment. Yet God IMMEDIATELY commanded them to bring offerings to Job for intercession, and brought Job's brothers, sisters, everyone who knew him before, giving him DOUBLE what he'd lost. Instant restoration of safe community after ultimate betrayal by friends.
I REFUSE the lie that safe people are most dangerous. IT IS WRITTEN that Ruth-level covenant loyalty EXISTS—'only death will part us.' One betrayer does not define all of humanity. IT IS WRITTEN in Proverbs 17:17, 'A friend loves at ALL times.' God is bringing me friends who love in ALL seasons, not just convenient ones. I am under the BARAK blessing, and part of that blessing is being SURROUNDED by faithful people who reflect my Father's heart. I will NOT let one Judas make me miss eleven disciples.
Your Father is not asking you to pretend the betrayal didn't happen—He's showing you that the betrayer was the EXCEPTION, not the rule. While you're categorizing everyone as potential threats, He's already positioned your Ruth, your Jonathan, your John-who-stayed-at-the-cross, and they're closer than you think.
