"The church people who hurt me represent who God really is."
How it sounds in your head: The youth leader who gossiped about my family, the girl who said she was a Christian but spread rumors about me—that's what Christianity really is. If God's people are mean, then God must be mean too.
"I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick."
-- Ezekiel 34:16Source: trauma and religious hypocrisy - wounded by those who claimed to represent Christ.
She experienced real pain from people wearing 'Christian' labels. The disconnect between their words and actions created deep confusion about God's character.
Abused and rejected by Abraham and Sarah—God's chosen people who treated her terribly—she ran into the desert. God HIMSELF appeared to her, saw her pain, and she became the only person in Scripture to give God a name: 'The God Who Sees Me.'
I REFUSE the lie that hurt from Christians means God is like them. IT IS WRITTEN that God SEEKS the lost and BINDS UP the broken—He's angry at those who wounded me, not proud of them. I am SEEN by El Roi, the God who sees me. IT IS WRITTEN that He strengthens what was made sick. I am Abraham's seed, heir according to promise, and the BARAK blessing covers me even when God's people fail. The Father is RUNNING toward me with the robe and ring, not defending those who hurt me.
The Father is furious at what was done to you in His name—He's not making excuses for them, He's making up for them. While you're still smelling like the pig pen of church hurt, He's already running with the robe of His reputation to replace theirs.
