"The abuse or neglect I suffered means I'm permanently broken or damaged goods."
How it sounds in your head: Other people didn't have to claw their way to normal. They got safe childhoods, encouraging words, protection. You got violation, terror, or soul-crushing neglect. There's a part of you that feels unreachable, a brokenness therapy can manage but never heal. You're functioning, but fundamentally fractured.
"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."
-- Isaiah 61:1-3Enemy redefining identity by trauma rather than covenant, making what happened TO you become who you ARE.
The scars are real—flashbacks, triggers, relational patterns, the way your body remembers what your mind tries to forget. Science confirms it: 'childhood trauma rewires the brain.' The damage feels structural, not circumstantial.
Mephibosheth was dropped by his nurse at age 5, crippled in both feet, orphaned, hiding in fear as grandson of dead King Saul. King David found him, restored ALL of Saul's land to him, gave him permanent place at the king's table, and treated him like a son—INSTANT restoration despite permanent physical disability.
I REFUSE the lie that trauma made me damaged goods or permanently broken. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came specifically to heal the brokenhearted and give beauty for ashes—not manage my brokenness but TRANSFORM IT into trees of righteousness. What happened to me was real, but it's not my identity. I am not defined by what was done TO me but by what was done FOR me at the cross. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, the head not tail—the BARAK doesn't skip the abused; it TARGETS them for radical restoration. I am not a survivor managing trauma; I am a son displaying the Father's healing power. Where the enemy meant destruction, God means GLORY.
The Father doesn't see you as damaged goods needing careful handling—He sees you as the PERFECT CANVAS for His redemptive artistry, beauty-from-ashes that will make hell regret ever touching you. He's not waiting for you to heal enough to be useful; He's using you NOW, brokenness and all, because His power shows up best in weakness.
