"Taking care of myself is selfish when so many people are hurting."
How it sounds in your head: The world is literally on fire. People are dying without Jesus. Your friend is suicidal. Your mom is dealing with cancer. And you want a nap? You want a day off? How privileged and self-centered can you be? Jesus didn't rest when people were suffering.
"Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray."

Real suffering surrounds her and caring for herself feels trivial and indulgent by comparison. Her empathy becomes a weapon against her own well-being.
Jesus just performed a massive miracle feeding thousands, and the crowd wanted more - more teaching, more healing, more miracles. His response: He sent them all away and went up the mountain ALONE to pray. Needs didn't dictate His schedule; the Father did.
I REFUSE the lie that caring for myself is selfish. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus sent crowds away to pray alone - if the Savior of the world withdrew while people still had needs, I can too without guilt. I am NOT the messiah; I'm a BRANCH connected to the Vine. The BARAK blessing includes boundaries that protect my peace, provision for my own soul, and permission to rest. IT IS WRITTEN that I love my neighbor as MYSELF - I can't give what I don't have. Self-care isn't selfish; it's stewarding the temple God gave me. I honor Him by honoring my limits and trusting Him with what I can't carry.
The Father doesn't guilt you into exhaustion. He's the Good Shepherd who makes you lie down in green pastures, not in a graveyard of burnout. He's not standing over you with a stopwatch asking why you're resting when there's work to do - He's inviting you to recline at the feast He's prepared FOR you.
