"Success means abandoning my culture's values and becoming like them to get ahead."
How it sounds in your head: You watch what gets rewarded and it looks nothing like what your grandparents valued. Humility gets trampled. Community gets called codependency. The way up requires becoming someone you don't recognize. You're trading your soul for a salary.
"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself."
-- Daniel 1:8False gospel of assimilation - enemy claiming you must lose yourself to gain the world.
You've seen people change when they 'make it' and you've judged them for it. The skills that get promoted are not the virtues you were taught. Ambition feels like betrayal of where you came from.
Daniel refused to compromise his prayer life even when it meant the lion's den, and 'distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him.' His refusal to assimilate led to promotion, not limitation.
I REFUSE the lie that success requires abandoning my values. IT IS WRITTEN that Daniel kept his convictions in Babylon and was found ten times better than those who compromised. My cultural values of honor, community, and humility are Kingdom values. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow. I am blessed to be the HEAD not the tail while remaining rooted in who God made me. I do not trade my soul for advancement.
The Father isn't asking you to become someone else to receive the inheritance - He's giving you the ROBE that fits exactly who He created you to be, culture included. Your uniqueness is not a bug, it's a feature of His design.
