"Something hidden in me repels love; I'm fundamentally unloveable"
How it sounds in your head: There's something wrong deep inside that I can't see but others can sense. Maybe I'm too damaged from my past, too broken from my family, too scarred from previous relationships. People get close and then leave. I must emit some signal that warns them away. The common denominator in all my failed connections is me.
"You are all fair, my love, and there is no spot in you."
-- Song of Solomon 4:7Trauma and rejection create a false identity of 'defective,' and religion adds shame about hidden unworthiness despite outward righteousness.
Relationships start hopefully then fade without clear reason. You've worked on yourself, been to therapy, read the books—but the pattern continues. You wonder if you're blind to the flaw everyone else sees, and the not-knowing is torture. The repetition feels like evidence of something intrinsically wrong.
Rahab was a prostitute—a profession built on being used and discarded, her value reduced to her body. Yet God chose her to protect the Israeli spies, brought her into the covenant community, gave her marriage to Salmon (a prince of Judah), and placed her in the MESSIANIC LINE—great-great-grandmother of David and direct ancestor of Jesus. Her past didn't disqualify her; it was redeemed into royalty.
I REFUSE the lie that something hidden in me repels love or makes me fundamentally unloveable. IT IS WRITTEN that I am ALL fair and there is NO spot in me—the Bridegroom's declaration over me. I am not defective, not damaged goods, not the common denominator in failed relationships. I am the PROTECTED one, removed by God from wrong connections that would have harmed me. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. I walk in the BARAK blessing—blessed when coming in and going out, blessed in relationships, blessed in my future. Like Rahab the prostitute who became the grandmother of kings, my past does not define my destination. I am PURSUED by perfect love, CHOSEN for covenant, DESIGNED for deep connection. The right love doesn't need to overlook my flaws; it sees the RIGHTEOUSNESS Christ gave me. I am completely, extravagantly, eternally LOVEABLE.
The Father doesn't see hidden defects that explain your relational history. He sees the righteousness of Christ, and from that position, He calls you 'altogether beautiful' without qualification or hesitation. Like the Prodigal's father who ran to his son still covered in pig-pen filth, He's running toward you in your sense of brokenness, not waiting for you to fix whatever you think is wrong—because in His eyes, you're already PERFECT in Christ.
