"Receiving financial help at this age proves I failed at life."
How it sounds in your head: Successful people retire comfortably. I need help, which means I failed to plan, failed to save, failed to build something lasting. I'm a cautionary tale, not a success story.
"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."
-- John 15:5World's definition of success as self-sufficiency, contradicting Kingdom definition of success as abiding in the Vine.
American dream says financial independence by old age equals success. She's dependent, so by that measure, she failed.
The APOSTLE PAUL - church planter, miracle worker, Scripture writer - received financial support from churches and said 'I know what it is to be in need' (v.12). He wasn't ashamed. He called their giving 'a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice' and then declared God would supply ALL their need.
I REFUSE the lie that needing help equals failure. IT IS WRITTEN that without Christ I can do nothing - meaning SUCCESS is connection to Him, not independence from people. I am a BRANCH abiding in the Vine, and fruit comes from CONNECTION. The BARAK blessing sustained Israel with MANNA for 40 years - daily dependence, daily provision. IT IS WRITTEN: My God shall supply ALL my need according to HIS riches in glory. I am not a cautionary tale. I am a TESTIMONY of a Father who provides for His daughter at every age. I receive with joy.
Your Father doesn't measure your life by your bank balance at 90. He measures it by the fruit that came from abiding in Him - love, joy, peace, impact, legacy - none of which require a big retirement account.
