"Real friendship is for people with consistent emotional capacity, and I barely have enough for myself."
How it sounds in your head: Your mental health is too unstable to be a good friend. You cancel plans because you're overwhelmed, you go silent when you're depressed, you need too much when you're anxious. Healthy people need consistent friends, and you're too much of a rollercoaster to offer that.
"The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit."
-- Psalm 34:18Enemy uses mental health struggles to convince you you're disqualified from connection when Scripture shows God PURSUES the broken.
You've had to cancel on people mid-panic attack. You've disappeared from group chats during depressive episodes. You feel guilty for needing support when you can't always reciprocate. You're afraid if people knew how much you're barely holding it together, they'd leave.
After massive prophetic victory, Elijah immediately spiraled into suicidal depression, ran into the wilderness, lay under a tree and begged to die. God didn't rebuke him for inconsistency—He sent an ANGEL with food, let him sleep, spoke gently, and gave him a friend (Elisha) and a new assignment. From suicidal to restored in ONE ENCOUNTER.
I REFUSE the lie that my mental health disqualifies me from connection. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord is NEAR to the brokenhearted—He doesn't wait for me to stabilize. Elijah was SUICIDAL and God sent angels, rest, gentle words, and a FRIEND—instant care for the struggling prophet. The BARAK blessing doesn't exclude me during depression; it INCLUDES me, surrounding me with favor even when I'm barely functioning. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came for the SICK, not the healthy—the whole don't need a physician. My inconsistency doesn't disqualify me; it's exactly where Father's compassion runs TOWARD me. I am not too broken for community. The Father is RUNNING toward me with people who will stay through the hard days, not despite my struggle but because He's orchestrating COVENANT friendship that doesn't depend on my performance.
The Father doesn't see your panic attacks and depression as disqualifications—He sees you as the one He LEFT THE NINETY-NINE FOR. He's not waiting for you to become emotionally consistent; He's running toward you IN your struggle with REST, with people who won't leave when you're not okay, because His love isn't conditional on your capacity.
