"Real faith would have produced results by now—mine must be defective."
How it sounds in your head: If I had real faith, this would have happened years ago. Other people believe and see results. I've believed for decades with nothing. My faith must be broken or insufficient. Maybe I'm just not one of the ones God answers.
"And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform."
-- Romans 4:19-21Religion—the lie that faith is a work that produces results based on quality/quantity and that lack of visible results indicates defective faith.
After 70+ years of believing with no breakthrough, it's easy to conclude the problem is your faith. Watching others receive while you wait makes it feel personal.
Anna was a widow for 84 YEARS, waiting in the temple for Messiah—never saw Him until she was 105+ years old. Her decades of waiting didn't indicate weak faith; they set her up to be one of the first to recognize Jesus. Her long wait was rewarded.
I REFUSE the lie that my faith is defective because results are delayed. IT IS WRITTEN that Abraham was not weak in faith even at 100 years old with a dead body. My faith is not measured by speed but by trust in God's character. I am strengthened in faith, fully convinced that what He promised He is able to perform. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed with faithful Abraham, and the BARAK covers me whether I see results today or tomorrow. My long wait proves STRONG faith, not weak. I do not waver.
The Father isn't grading your faith like a performance review—He's delighted that you're still standing after all these years. Like Abraham at 100, your endurance IS the faith. He's not disappointed in you; He's proud of you. The promise is already yes in Christ.
