"Real faith would have kept me from this nursing home bed"
How it sounds in your head: I'm completely dependent now. Can't walk, can't feed myself, can't even control basic functions. If I'd had the faith those prosperity preachers talk about, I'd be vibrant and independent. This helplessness is proof my faith never worked.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Prosperity teaching made physical independence the measure of faith, turning human frailty into spiritual failure instead of honored humanity.
The total dependence feels humiliating after a lifetime of self-sufficiency. You see healthy elderly people and wonder what faith they exercised that you missed.
Paul begged God THREE TIMES to remove his physical 'thorn in the flesh' - God said NO and instead gave him grace to carry it. Paul's continued weakness became the arena for Christ's power, not evidence of failed faith.
I REFUSE the lie that physical dependence means spiritual failure. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that God's strength is made PERFECT in my weakness - this nursing home bed is the arena for His glory, not proof of my lack. My Father doesn't measure faith by independence; He inhabits weakness with His presence. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 46:4 'Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you!' - He's CARRYING me now, not condemning me. I am the BRANCH in the season of rest; the VINE sustains me regardless of my productivity. The BARAK blessing doesn't require my strength - it protected Isaac when he was OLD and BLIND and still blessed Jacob.
Your Father sees you in that bed and doesn't wish you had more faith to avoid it - He's climbing INTO the bed with you, like He promised 'Even to gray hairs I will CARRY you.' He's not disappointed; He's present.
