"Real connection requires energy and consistency I simply don't have anymore at this stage."
How it sounds in your head: Friendship takes effort—remembering birthdays, returning calls promptly, hosting, showing up consistently. I'm exhausted just managing my own life and health. I can't keep up with the demands of real friendship anymore. It's not fair to start something I can't sustain, so it's better to just accept surface-level relationships.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28Enemy partnering with legitimate physical limitations to redefine connection as performance-based rather than presence-based, making rest sound like relational failure.
Her energy IS genuinely limited compared to previous decades, and she's watched friendships fade when she couldn't maintain previous levels of activity. The cultural definition of 'good friend' requires capacity she no longer has, making withdrawal feel like integrity.
While Martha exhausted herself with hosting performance, Mary simply SAT at Jesus' feet and listened. Jesus defended her choice, saying she chose the 'good part' that wouldn't be taken away—presence over performance, connection over activity, and it was ENOUGH.
I REFUSE the lie that connection requires energy I don't have. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus invites those who are weary and heavy laden to come and REST—not perform. I will not let enemy redefine friendship as performance when God defines it as PRESENCE. The BARAK blessing over my life attracts relationships that receive my presence as GIFT, not demand my energy as payment. IT IS WRITTEN that my weakness is the place His strength is made perfect, which means my limitations don't disqualify me from connection—they QUALIFY me for grace-based relationship. Right now, I receive friendships that don't require what I cannot give but celebrate what I AM.
The Father isn't waiting for you to have more energy—He's running toward you with the same words He gave Mary: your PRESENCE is enough, and the connections He's orchestrating don't require hosting skills or stamina but simply the gift of who you are, exhaustion and all. Rest is not relational failure; it's the POSTURE He's inviting you into for the deepest connection.
