"Real community requires participation. I can't participate anymore, so I'm outside the circle."
How it sounds in your head: I can't attend church. I can't serve on committees. I can't host dinners or join Bible studies. I can't even make it to the lunch table in the facility. Community happens where people gather and do things together. I'm stuck in this bed. By definition, I'm outside the circle now. I'm a name on a prayer list, not a member of the body.
"But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased."
-- 1 Corinthians 12:18Religious lie that community is about activity rather than identity in the Body of Christ where participation is BEING, not DOING.
All past community experiences required physical presence and active participation. She cannot attend events, contribute to potlucks, or show up for service projects. The center of church life feels geographically and physically inaccessible from a hospice bed.
After his resurrection, Lazarus sat at the table with Jesus while Martha served and Mary worshiped. Lazarus didn't DO anything—he just SAT there. His presence was participation. His BEING was the testimony. He didn't serve the meal—he WAS the miracle.
I REFUSE the lie that community requires activity I can no longer perform. IT IS WRITTEN that God has set each member in the Body just as He pleased. I am not IN the Body because I show up—I AM the Body because I am in Christ. Lazarus sat at the table and his PRESENCE was participation. My BEING is my contribution. Every breath, every prayer, every moment I abide in the Vine—I am FUNCTIONING. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed and highly favored, the blessed of Abraham, and the BARAK doesn't require my performance. I am not on the outside. I am part of the eternal communion of saints, connected to the Head, held in the Body. I am not a prayer request. I am a MEMBER.
The Father doesn't measure your participation by your activity—He delights in your PRESENCE. You are a living testimony that value comes from BEING His daughter, not DOING religious tasks. Every saint in heaven is cheering for you, and every believer on earth is connected to you in the Spirit. You're not outside—you're CENTRAL.
