"Real Christians never doubt. My questions mean something's wrong with me spiritually."
How it sounds in your head: I have questions about Bible stories and prayers that didn't get answered. But everyone else seems so sure and I don't want them to know I'm struggling. Maybe if I was really saved, I wouldn't have these doubts.
"And on some have compassion, making a distinction; on some have compassion, making a difference."
-- Jude 1:22Source: Church culture that punishes curiosity and equates questions with rebellion or weak faith.
She's entering the age of critical thinking but church environment feels unsafe for honest questions. Seeing others appear confident makes her think her internal wrestling is abnormal.
John baptized Jesus and heard God's voice, yet from prison sent disciples asking 'Are You really the Messiah or should we expect someone else?' Jesus didn't rebuke him but sent proof and called him the greatest born of women.
I REFUSE the lie that my questions disqualify me. IT IS WRITTEN that God has compassion on those who doubt, not condemnation! Even John the Baptist, the greatest born of women, asked Jesus 'Are You really the One?' from prison and Jesus didn't reject him. My honest questions are safer with God than my pretend certainty. IT IS WRITTEN that the father who cried 'I believe; help my unbelief!' saw his son healed IMMEDIATELY - God moves for imperfect believers! I am growing in understanding and that's healthy, not heretical. The barak blessing covers me even in seasons of questioning because covenant isn't based on my perfect theology.
Your Father isn't threatened by your questions - He invented curiosity! He'd rather have your honest doubt than your fake certainty, and He's big enough to handle every question you're afraid to ask out loud.
