"Poverty keeps me humble. Wealth would ruin my character and relationship with God."
How it sounds in your head: You've heard it preached your whole life—money corrupts, rich people are prideful, easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. Maybe your poverty is actually spiritual protection. Maybe God loves you too much to let you be wealthy and worldly.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religion: Poverty gospel that makes lack a virtue and provision a spiritual danger, opposite of Abraham's blessing.
He's watched wealthy church members become prideful. He's heard sermons equating poverty with piety for eighty years. Every 'blessed are the poor' message confirmed that his lack was actually righteousness.
After his trial, the Lord gave Job TWICE as much as he had before—14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, 1,000 female donkeys. God's idea of restoration wasn't 'character through poverty'—it was DOUBLE WEALTH immediately.
I REFUSE the lie that poverty keeps me humble and wealth would corrupt me. IT IS WRITTEN that God wants me to PROSPER in all things AND be in health. Poverty doesn't produce humility—it produces LACK. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives power to get wealth to ESTABLISH HIS COVENANT. Abraham was wealthy and walked with God. Job got DOUBLE wealth in his restoration. The barak blessing is PROSPERITY—blessed in city and field, head not tail. My character flows from the VINE, not my bank account. The Spirit produces humility; poverty just produces bills. My Father doesn't use broke to make me holy.
Your Father sees you wearing poverty like a religious badge, and He's running toward you with the ROBE of righteousness that was NEVER based on your bank account. While you're afraid wealth would separate you from Him, He's preparing the abundance that will finally free you to rest in His presence instead of being distracted by lack.
