"People who betray you don't deserve forgiveness or second chances."
How it sounds in your head: She destroyed your reputation. He squandered your money. They slandered you to your own family. Grace doesn't mean being a doormat—they need to face consequences and earn their way back, if ever.
"Even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do."
-- Colossians 3:13Old Covenant thinking that forgiveness must be earned through repentance and restitution, denying the scandal of grace.
What they did was genuinely heinous and devastating. Forgiving feels like letting them off the hook, minimizing your pain, and inviting repeat betrayal.
His brothers sold him into slavery, causing thirteen years of false imprisonment and suffering. When they stood before him terrified, Joseph IMMEDIATELY forgave them—didn't make them grovel, didn't require repayment, gave them the best land in Egypt and provided for them generously.
I REFUSE the lie that forgiveness requires their repentance. IT IS WRITTEN that I forgive as Christ forgave me—freely, completely, while I was still His enemy. Forgiveness isn't about their worthiness; it's about MY freedom. IT IS WRITTEN in Matthew 6:14 under the New Covenant that the Father has ALREADY forgiven me all trespasses (Colossians 2:13)—not because I earned it, but because of the cross. I am Abraham's seed, and the barak blessing flowed even when HE was the betrayer who lied to kings. I release forgiveness not because they deserve it, but because I carry Christ's nature. Right now, chains are breaking off my heart, not through process, but through the instant power of His finished work.
The Father isn't waiting for them to apologize before releasing you from bitterness—He's already cutting the chains RIGHT NOW. Like Joseph who didn't require his brothers to earn forgiveness, you're receiving instant freedom, not after they've changed, but TODAY.
