"People only remember me when they need something. Otherwise I don't exist."
How it sounds in your head: Kids text me when they need homework answers or a ride. They sit with me at lunch when nobody else is available. I'm useful, not wanted. A tool, not a friend. When I'm not helpful, I'm invisible again. I only matter for what I can do.
"The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: 'Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.'"
-- Jeremiah 31:3Enemy exploiting people-pleasing tendency and service gifting to attack core identity and belonging.
He's experienced people being friendly when they need something and distant when they don't. His helpfulness gets him temporary attention but not lasting friendship.
Everyone in her town used her and discarded her—five husbands, living with another man, avoided by respectable people. Jesus went OUT OF HIS WAY to meet her, revealed Himself to her FIRST, and transformed her INSTANTLY into an evangelist who brought the whole town to Him.
I REFUSE the lie that I am only valuable when I'm useful or that people only want me for what I can do. IT IS WRITTEN that God loves me with an EVERLASTING love—not based on my performance or helpfulness but based on His nature. I am wanted for WHO I AM, not what I provide. IT IS WRITTEN that I am His treasured possession. My worth is not in my usefulness—my worth is in my IDENTITY as His beloved son. The BARAK blessing is on me—I am WANTED, LOVED, and CELEBRATED simply for existing. I am ENOUGH.
The Father didn't go out of His way to reach you because He needed something from you. He pursued you because He WANTED you. Your usefulness doesn't increase His love—His love is already maxed out, everlasting, unchanging.
