"Other people's forgiveness matters more than God's; I can't forgive myself until they forgive me."
How it sounds in your head: What good is God's forgiveness if the people I actually hurt haven't forgiven me yet? Some of them may never forgive me. Does that mean I'm trapped in this guilt forever? How can I move forward when they're still angry?
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14People-pleasing religion that makes human approval the measure of standing rather than God's declaration of righteousness.
She lives with the daily reality of broken relationships and people who may never forgive her. God's forgiveness feels abstract compared to the concrete pain of human rejection and ongoing relational consequences.
Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery, lied to their father for decades, and caused him years of suffering. When Joseph revealed himself, he immediately embraced them and wept—but they STILL didn't believe they were forgiven even years later (Gen 50:15-21). Their unbelief didn't undo Joseph's forgiveness or God's blessing on them.
I REFUSE the lie that I need human forgiveness to receive divine forgiveness. IT IS WRITTEN that God has forgiven me ALL trespasses, wiping out every charge against me and nailing it to the cross. Their forgiveness or lack of it does not determine my standing before God. IT IS WRITTEN that there is no condemnation for those in Christ—none from God, none dependent on others' release. I grieve the pain I caused, and I trust God with their healing journey while I walk in the freedom He already purchased. Under the BARAK blessing, I am accepted in the Beloved. I am FORGIVEN. I am FREE.
The Father didn't wait for the world to forgive you before He declared you righteous—He declared it while humanity was still shaking fists at heaven. He's not asking you to wait for human approval to walk in freedom; He's asking you to believe His approval is enough.
