"Other parents' kids stayed faithful; you must have done something uniquely wrong."
How it sounds in your head: You sit in church watching families with grown kids who love Jesus. Their parenting couldn't have been that different, but their kids are leading worship while yours is posting drunk stories. You must be the failure variable in the equation.
"But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7Comparison + shame from enemy making you the determining factor instead of free will.
The evidence is visible every Sunday—their kids on stage, yours absent. If the gospel works, and their kids are proof, your kid is proof of YOUR failure.
Samuel was the PROPHET who heard God's voice as a child, judged Israel righteously, and led a nation into revival. Yet HIS OWN SONS 'did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.' Even the great prophet Samuel had rebellious sons—not because he failed, but because they had free will.
I REFUSE the lie that comparison proves my failure. IT IS WRITTEN that man looks at outward appearance, but God looks at the heart—I don't know others' full stories. IT IS WRITTEN that when Peter compared himself to John, Jesus said, 'What is that to you? YOU follow Me.' Samuel the PROPHET had rebellious sons—it's not about MY performance. My son has FREE WILL, not a predetermined outcome based on my parenting score. I release comparison and pick up faith. The BARAK blessing covers MY household by covenant, not by comparison to others.
The Father isn't comparing your son to the pastor's kids—He's chasing your son with the same wild love. Samuel the prophet had rebellious sons; it's not about your performance, it's about free will meeting relentless grace.
