"My son's addiction proves I didn't pray enough or have enough faith to protect him."
How it sounds in your head: Other moms have prayer journals, go to every intercessory meeting, fast regularly. I tried but got busy, got tired, got inconsistent. If I'd prayed like they do, he wouldn't be in rehab right now. My weak faith failed him.
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."
-- Philippians 1:6Religious performance teaching that makes your child's freedom dependent on YOUR prayer consistency instead of God's finished work.
You can count the times you fell asleep during prayer, the weeks you didn't open your Bible, the intercession meetings you skipped. Other mothers seemed more faithful and their kids are fine.
Paul's coworker and messenger became deathly ill—so sick he nearly died—despite being in direct ministry with the apostle Paul himself. If proximity to Paul and Paul's prayers couldn't prevent sickness, your prayer consistency isn't the issue—and God still had mercy and healed Epaphroditus completely.
I REFUSE the lie that my son's addiction is because I didn't pray enough. IT IS WRITTEN that He who began a good work will COMPLETE it—my son's freedom is guaranteed by God's faithfulness, not my prayer consistency. The Spirit intercedes for me with groanings too deep for words when I don't know how to pray. IT IS WRITTEN that it is not by might nor by power but by God's Spirit. I am not a failed intercessor—I am a mother covered by grace, and my son is covered by the BARAK blessing that doesn't depend on my performance. God is completing in my son what He started, and the breakthrough is already in motion.
The Father doesn't have a prayer attendance chart determining when your son gets free—He's been working on your son's breakthrough since before you knew to pray for it. Your inconsistent prayers didn't stop His consistent pursuit, and He's orchestrating freedom right now while you sleep.
