"My sexual struggles disqualify me from blessing - this sin has followed me too long."
How it sounds in your head: Eighty-six years old and still fighting this. Thought it would fade with age, but the temptation finds new forms - the images, the thoughts, the shame. How can God bless a man who's battled this for seventy years? I've confessed it a thousand times, promised to stop, failed again. There must be a limit to forgiveness.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
-- 1 John 1:9Source: Religious teaching that God's patience has limits and persistent struggle proves disqualification rather than continued righteousness by gift.
Decades of the same battle with no final victory feels like proof he's defective, unredeemable. The frequency of confession feels like mockery, and his age makes it feel more shameful - shouldn't he be past this by now?
David - 'a man after God's own heart' - committed adultery, murdered the woman's husband to cover it up, and lived in deception for months. When confronted, he repented and God said 'The Lord has put away your sin' - IMMEDIATELY, not after years of proving himself, and David remained king and stayed in the Messianic line.
I REFUSE the lie that persistent struggle disqualifies me from blessing or proves I'm not righteous. IT IS WRITTEN that He is FAITHFUL to forgive and cleanse me from ALL unrighteousness - His faithfulness is based on His nature, not my victory record. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus by GIFT, not by conquest of temptation. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO condemnation for those in Christ - not 'less condemnation for recurring sin' but NO condemnation, PERIOD. The blood of Jesus cleanses me from ALL sin - past, present, future, repeated, habitual, shameful - ALL. I am Abraham's seed, blessed even when I stumble, because the covenant was never based on my behavior.
The Father isn't keeping a tally of how many times you've confessed the same struggle - He's running to you every single time with the same grace, the same forgiveness, the same delight, because His love isn't based on your performance. The prodigal came home smelling like pigs and got a party - you come with shame and get righteousness.
