"My secret shame means I can't worship, pray, or read my Bible until I get clean first."
How it sounds in your head: You can't come to God with dirty hands. You need to fix yourself before you can worship or pray. Reading the Bible while you're still struggling with this secret feels like hypocrisy. You have to get victory over this first, then you can approach God.
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
-- Hebrews 4:16Religion's 'clean up first' demand + Old Covenant veil + enemy's 'you're too dirty' lie + works-based access to God.
She feels like coming to God while still struggling is disrespectful or fake. She's been taught that righteousness is a prerequisite for access instead of a gift that grants access.
Peter denied Jesus three times, cursed, and swore he never knew Him - the ultimate betrayal while Jesus was being crucified. Jesus didn't wait for Peter to 'get right' first; He cooked him breakfast on the beach, restored him with three questions of love, and immediately commissioned him to 'feed My sheep.' From betrayal to breakfast to commission in one morning.
I REFUSE the lie that I must clean myself up before approaching God. IT IS WRITTEN to come BOLDLY to His throne in my time of NEED - and need means mess, struggle, and failure. I don't come clean to GET grace; I come broken to RECEIVE grace. IT IS WRITTEN that while we were STILL sinners, Christ died for us - He didn't wait for us to improve. My access to the Father is based on Jesus's blood, not my behavior. The BARAK blessing isn't earned by cleanliness; it's covenant grace covering me in my worst moments. I come boldly, messily, honestly - because that's when I need Him most.
The Father isn't standing at a distance waiting for you to be 'good enough' to approach - He tore the veil from top to bottom so you could come running into His presence exactly as you are, and His presence is where transformation happens. Connection first, then change - never the reverse.
