"My season for deep friendships has passed and I missed it somehow."
How it sounds in your head: I see younger women with their tight-knit groups and realize I never built that. I was too busy raising kids, working, surviving. Now they all have their decades-long friend circles and I'm the outsider looking in. There's no room for new people in established groups, and I'm too tired to start from scratch.
"For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth."
-- Zechariah 4:10Enemy using comparison to younger seasons and accusation of missed opportunity to create false narrative that connection has expiration dates and time windows.
She genuinely observes established friend groups that formed in earlier decades, and the cultural narrative about 'making friends gets harder as you age' seems confirmed by experience. The exhaustion of starting over feels insurmountable at this stage.
Sarah was 90 years old, decades past any natural season for motherhood, when God gave her Isaac. She laughed at the impossibility, but God said 'Is anything too hard for the Lord?' and she birthed the child of promise in her NINETIES—her greatest miracle came in the season everyone said was finished.
I REFUSE the lie that I missed my season for deep connection. IT IS WRITTEN that God does not despise small beginnings, and what looks late to me is RIGHT ON TIME to Him. I am Abraham's seed, and the same God who gave Sarah a child at 90 can give me covenant friendships at 65. There is NO EXPIRATION DATE on the Father's goodness toward me. IT IS WRITTEN that my latter days will be greater than my former, which means my BEST friendships may still be ahead. Right now, I receive divine connections that don't require decades to build—instant covenant relationships born of His Spirit, not human effort.
The Father isn't disappointed that you didn't build earlier what He's bringing now—He's running toward you with the reality that His timing is ALWAYS perfect and the friendships He's orchestrating won't feel like starting from scratch but coming home. Like Sarah, what you think you missed is actually what He's been PREPARING, and laughter is coming.
