"My parents couldn't break out of poverty. What makes me think I can?"
How it sounds in your head: Your dad worked hard his whole life and never got ahead. Your mom sacrificed everything. They were good people, and they didn't make it. What makes you different?
"And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, 'Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?' Elisha said, 'Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.'"
-- 2 Kings 2:9Source: The enemy using honor for parents as a cage—making their limits YOUR limits and calling it respect.
You watched them try. They weren't lazy. They weren't stupid. They just couldn't break through, and you feel like you're honoring them by accepting the same limits they had.
David was a great king who killed Goliath, united Israel, was a man after God's heart. His son Solomon asked for wisdom, and God gave him wisdom AND riches and honor such that NO KING would compare—Solomon went FURTHER than his father, and it was GOOD.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm limited to my parents' limits. IT IS WRITTEN: Elisha asked for a DOUBLE PORTION (2 Kings 2:9), and it was granted. I honor my parents by going FURTHER with what Christ gave me. I am in the NEW covenant, sealed by the blood of Jesus, and I have access to the barak blessing of Abraham. IT IS WRITTEN: I am blessed coming in and going out, the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:6,13). My parents did their best with what they had; I steward what CHRIST gave me—and He gave me EVERYTHING. I am Abraham's seed and heir according to the promise (Galatians 3:29). I walk in abundance NOW, and my breakthrough honors their sacrifice by maximizing the foundation they gave me.
Your Father doesn't want you limited by your parents' limits—He wants you to BUILD on what they gave you and go FURTHER with what Christ provided. He's not asking you to dishonor them; He's inviting you to STEWARD the new covenant they didn't have access to. He's running toward you with blessing that honors their sacrifice by maximizing the next generation.
