"My memory loss means I'm losing myself—dementia is stealing who I am."
How it sounds in your head: I can't remember my grandchildren's names sometimes. I forget what I did yesterday. I'm disappearing piece by piece, and there's nothing I can do to stop it. Soon I won't even know who I am.
"Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me."
-- Isaiah 49:15-16Enemy: Convinces you that memory equals identity and your value disappears with your recall.
The frustration and fear are constant—reaching for words that won't come, recognizing faces but not names, the terror of losing mental ground daily.
Nebuchadnezzar lost his mind completely for seven years—lived like an animal, eating grass, losing all human reason and memory of who he was. But Daniel 4:34 says 'at the end of the time, my understanding RETURNED to me'—God restored his mind, his reason, and his kingdom INSTANTLY and completely.
I REFUSE the lie that memory loss means losing myself. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 49:16 that I am inscribed on the palms of God's hands—my identity is secured in HIM, not in my recall ability. My LIFE is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3), unchangeable regardless of what my brain remembers. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 139:16 that all my days were written in God's book before one of them came to be—He knows exactly who I am every moment. I speak to my mind in Jesus' name: BE RENEWED (Romans 12:2). My brain is under the BARAK blessing of covenant protection. I have the MIND OF CHRIST (1 Corinthians 2:16), and that truth stands regardless of what the enemy tries to steal.
The Father isn't watching you slip away in fear—He's the God who restored Nebuchadnezzar's mind after seven years of insanity in ONE MOMENT, who healed the demonized man in Mark 5 from complete mental chaos to 'clothed and in his right mind' instantly. While you fear disappearing, He's declaring 'I have called you by name; you are MINE' (Isaiah 43:1), and He doesn't forget what He names.
