"My memory loss and confusion mean I'm losing God's presence and favor"
How it sounds in your head: I can't remember Scripture like I used to. I forget prayers mid-sentence. Is God's presence fading because my mind is fading? Am I losing connection?
"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
-- Romans 8:26Source: Enemy + religion - the demonic lie that God's presence is conditional on mental performance, mixed with the religious error that cognitive ability equals spiritual vitality.
Your spiritual practices have always been mental activities - reading, memorizing, praying coherently. As those abilities diminish, it feels like the foundation is crumbling and God is becoming distant.
Mephibosheth was crippled, had nothing to offer, lived in a wasteland called 'Lo Debar' (place of no pasture). David brought him to the king's table permanently based solely on covenant with Jonathan, and he ate there 'as one of the king's sons' despite his disability.
I REFUSE the lie that cognitive decline means I'm losing God's presence. IT IS WRITTEN that when I don't know what to pray, the Spirit Himself intercedes with groanings beyond words. My connection to God was NEVER based on my mental performance - it's based on His covenant promise. IT IS WRITTEN in Ephesians 1:13 that I was sealed with the Holy Spirit, and Alzheimer's cannot break God's seal. I am Abraham's seed, an heir by PROMISE not performance, covered by the BARAK that blessed Isaac even when he was old and his eyes were dim. The Father doesn't love me less when I forget - He remembers me more.
The Father isn't growing distant as your memory fades - He's drawing nearer, taking over the parts you can no longer manage. He's already at the table with a permanent seat carved with your name, and your mental acuity was never the membership requirement.
