"My kids will be embarrassed by me because I'm not successful enough yet."
How it sounds in your head: Other dads have impressive careers and you're still figuring it out. You drive an older car. Your house isn't impressive. When they compare you to their friends' dads, you'll come up short. They'll wish you were more established.
"But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are."
-- 1 Corinthians 1:27-28Source: world status system—the enemy measuring your fatherhood by NET WORTH instead of by COVENANT IDENTITY.
You see the visible gap between where you are and where 'successful' dads are at this age. Career day feels intimidating. You don't have the title, the house, the résumé that impresses.
A teenager with no armor, no military résumé, no impressive credentials facing a giant—Goliath DESPISED him by appearance. One stone, one shot, giant dead. God chose the unimpressive shepherd to shame the mighty warrior—instant victory that had nothing to do with status.
I REFUSE the lie that my worth as a father is measured by worldly success. IT IS WRITTEN that God chooses the weak things to shame the mighty. My kids are learning that their identity comes from WHO THEY ARE, not what they achieve—because that's what I'm modeling. IT IS WRITTEN that I am Abraham's seed, heir according to promise. The BARAK blessing makes me the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath—not because of my résumé but because of COVENANT. I am successful in the eyes of the only One whose opinion matters—my Heavenly Father.
The Father is writing a story with your family that will make people say, 'Look what GOD did'—not 'Look what he achieved.' Your kids will boast in the LORD, not in your job title, and that's the greatest success of all.
