"My insomnia is punishment for my anxiety, stress, or inability to trust God enough."
How it sounds in your head: If I just had more faith, I'd sleep better. My sleeplessness proves I'm failing spiritually—real Christians have peace that lets them rest. This is what I get for being such an anxious mess.
"I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land."
-- Leviticus 26:6Religious teaching that peace is earned through performance; insomnia weaponized as evidence of spiritual failure.
Youth group taught that anxiety is lack of trust, so her insomnia feels like proof she's failing God. She watches other Christians seem peaceful and assumes her sleeplessness reveals her inadequate faith.
Jacob, running for his life after DECEIVING his father and brother, slept on a ROCK for a pillow in the wilderness—and had the most profound encounter with God of his life, seeing heaven opened. His sleep came with guilt, fear, and a stone pillow, yet God showed up in that rest.
I REFUSE the lie that my insomnia is punishment or proof of weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that HE gives peace and fearless sleep—not as reward for trust but as covenant gift. I cut agreement with religious shame that weaponizes sleeplessness as spiritual failure. My rest doesn't depend on my anxiety levels; it depends on His nature as Giver. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO condemnation for those in Christ—that includes no condemnation for racing thoughts at 2am. The Barak blessing covers me even in my anxiety. I receive guilt-free, shame-free rest NOW.
The Father isn't watching your insomnia with disappointment, adding it to a list of spiritual failures—He's weeping that religion taught you His gift of sleep was something you had to earn through perfect peace. He's giving you rest RIGHT NOW, anxiety and all, because you're His beloved daughter.
