"My grief is too heavy for others to carry with me"
How it sounds in your head: People have their own problems. You've been grieving your spouse, your friends, your health, your independence for so long. Everyone's compassion has limits, and you've exceeded yours. Time to grieve alone.
"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
-- Galatians 6:2Independence curse - the Western lie that strength means suffering alone instead of in community
It's been months or years, and you're still struggling. You see people change the subject when you mention your loss. Grief counselors have time limits. You feel you should be 'over it' by now and carrying on alone.
Naomi returned home bitter, having lost her husband and both sons, and openly said 'Call me Mara (bitter), for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.' Ruth stayed with her in the grief, and God turned Naomi's devastation into legacy - she became grandmother to King David and ancestor of Jesus.
I REFUSE the lie that my grief is too heavy to share. IT IS WRITTEN: Bear one another's burdens and fulfill the law of Christ. My sorrow is not too much - it's a sacred space where Christ's body demonstrates His love. IT IS WRITTEN: He is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. I am not abandoned in grief - I am SURROUNDED by the God of all comfort and the community He provides. The BARAK blessing includes comfort, and I receive it without shame.
Your Father is not waiting for your grief to end before He draws close - He's NEAREST in your darkest valley, sitting in the ashes with you, collecting every tear, holding every broken piece until wholeness comes.
