"My grandparents were abusive, so I'll probably hurt my kids too"
How it sounds in your head: Grandma was mean to Mom. Mom sometimes rages at me. I feel anger rising in me and panic—what if I'm next? What if I ruin my future kids the way they were ruined? I don't even trust myself.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Enemy: Uses family dysfunction to make you fear your own heart, putting you under surveillance instead of under grace
She's witnessed the cycle—hurt people hurt people. She feels anger sometimes and thinks it's proof the 'curse' is in her. Psychology classes talk about cycles of abuse, making it sound inevitable unless she does years of therapy.
His grandfather Manasseh was the MOST EVIL king in Judah's history—murdered innocents, worshiped demons, sacrificed children. His father Amon continued the evil. Yet at age 8, Josiah 'did what was right in the sight of the Lord' and became the most righteous king. Zero connection to his lineage.
I REFUSE the lie that my grandparents' abuse determines my future parenting. IT IS WRITTEN that the son does NOT bear the guilt of the father—their sin is not mine. I do not carry their rage, their dysfunction, or their patterns. I am a NEW CREATION with the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT. IT IS WRITTEN that love, joy, peace, and patience flow from me because Christ lives in me. My grandmother's cruelty was hers alone—it was not deposited into my DNA. I am not 'at risk'—I am righteous, loved, and FREE. The cycle ends at the cross, not at my effort.
The Father doesn't see you as your grandmother's granddaughter—He sees you as HIS daughter with HIS heart. While you're still afraid of your own anger, He's running toward you declaring you SAFE, KIND, and whole, covering every fear with His perfect love.
