"My father's alcoholism and rage is why I've struggled my whole life with fear."
How it sounds in your head: I can still hear him screaming, throwing things, terrorizing us all. I've been anxious and fearful for 80 years now. I know it came from him—his sin marked me. Even though he's been dead for decades, I'm still living under what he did to me.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Religion teaching that parental sin transfers as a curse rather than Christ's completed redemption.
The fear response is deeply ingrained from childhood trauma that lasted years. She developed anxiety patterns in her formative years that have persisted eight decades, making it feel like his sin permanently damaged her.
Mephibosheth was crippled from childhood trauma (dropped by his nurse when fleeing Saul's massacre), living in fear and poverty for years. King David instantly restored him to the king's table permanently, gave him all of Saul's land, and treated him as his own son—past trauma erased by covenant kindness.
I REFUSE the lie that my father's sin cursed me with permanent fear. IT IS WRITTEN that I shall NOT bear the guilt of the father—his wickedness is upon himself, not me. I was not marked by his rage; I was marked by the BLOOD OF JESUS. IT IS WRITTEN that God has given me a spirit of POWER, love, and a sound mind, not fear. I declare that every anxious pattern breaks NOW because I am seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above every trauma. My father's voice is silenced by my Father's voice, and He calls me BELOVED. I walk in the BARAK blessing—protected, favored, and free.
The Father doesn't see you through the lens of your earthly father's failures—He sees you through the lens of His Son's perfection. He's running toward you with the declaration that your father's sin was never yours to carry, and He's ripping that burden off your shoulders right now.
