"My disability is punishment for something I or my parents did"
How it sounds in your head: You search your past for the sin that caused this. Was it your mother's stress during pregnancy? Your own rebellious years? Some hidden curse passed down generationally? The disability feels like evidence of guilt—yours or someone else's—that you're paying for.
"Jesus answered, 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.'"
-- John 9:3Religion + enemy: Disability framed as punishment; suffering tied to specific sin rather than living in a fallen world under the curse Jesus already broke.
The cause-and-effect narrative is deeply ingrained: sin brings consequences, and disability feels like a consequence that must have a cause. Without a clear answer, guilt fills the gap.
Called 'blameless and upright'—God Himself testified Job did NOTHING to deserve his suffering. Lost everything, covered in boils, friends accused him of hidden sin. God rebuked the accusers and INSTANTLY restored Job—double everything he lost—because the suffering was enemy attack, not divine punishment.
I REFUSE the lie that my disability is punishment. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus said NEITHER this man nor his parents sinned—my disability is not payback for hidden guilt. Christ has REDEEMED me from the curse of the law, and that curse included sickness. There is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus—not yesterday's condemnation, not generational condemnation, NO condemnation. I live in a fallen world, not under divine judgment. IT IS WRITTEN: The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give ABUNDANT life. My disability is the thief's work in a broken world, not the Father's verdict on my life. I am forgiven, redeemed, righteous by GIFT. The BARAK blessing covers me—not because I'm sinless, but because HE is faithful. I am NOT being punished; I am being LOVED.
The Father isn't holding your disability over your head as evidence of failure—He's wrapping His arms around you, whispering, 'This is NOT My judgment. This is a broken world I'm IN THE PROCESS of redeeming. Until then, My grace is enough. You are NOT being punished. You are Mine.'
