"My children inherited my poverty—I've cursed them with my financial failures and limitations."
How it sounds in your head: They're struggling because of me. I didn't give them what they needed. My lack became their lack. I failed as a provider and now they're paying for it. The guilt is crushing.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Source: false guilt + religious teaching that children suffer for parents' sins beyond cross.
He watches his adult children struggle financially and blames himself, believing his poverty imprinted them. Provider identity makes this feel like his ultimate failure.
Mephibosheth was crippled, son of dead Jonathan, grandson of fallen King Saul—every reason to inherit curse. David restored him to the king's table permanently with all of Saul's land returned, purely because of covenant with his father, not his own merit.
I REFUSE the lie that my financial struggles cursed my children. IT IS WRITTEN: The son does not bear the guilt of the father—my lack is NOT their inheritance. Christ redeemed them from every curse. Their destiny is in God's hands, not determined by my bank account. IT IS WRITTEN: I am blessed and my seed is blessed. The barak blessing flows FORWARD through generations in covenant. My children are Abraham's seed, heirs according to promise. What I couldn't give them naturally, God provides supernaturally.
The Father doesn't punish your children for your financial failures—He already placed them in the blessing lineage the moment they believed. Covenant flows forward with blessing, not backward with curse.
