"My cancer defines me, I'm a cancer survivor, always looking over my shoulder"
How it sounds in your head: Even in remission, you're still 'the cancer guy.' You watch every ache wondering if it's back. Your wife looks at you differently. Your kids treat you fragile. You're defined by what tried to kill you, living in fear of recurrence, scanning your body for signs of betrayal.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Trauma and fear turning past battle into permanent identity, agreement with death's claim.
The statistics are real—recurrence rates, survival percentages, every follow-up scan filled with dread. Your body betrayed you once; what stops it from doing it again? The medical language of 'survivor' sounds victorious but keeps you chained to what you survived.
He was DEAD four days, body already decomposing, stinking, hopeless. One command from Jesus—'Lazarus, come forth!'—and INSTANT resurrection from actual death, not just sickness.
I REFUSE the identity of 'cancer survivor' looking over my shoulder. I am a NEW CREATION where old things PASSED AWAY. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that I am completely new, not repaired or in remission—NEW. Cancer has no claim on Abraham's seed who carries the BARAK blessing of life and health. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in body, and the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead gives LIFE to my mortal body right now (Romans 8:11). I walk in resurrection life, not survival mode. My body is a temple of victory, not a ticking time bomb.
The Father doesn't see you as 'fragile survivor who beat the odds.' He sees you as His BELOVED SON in whom He is well pleased, radiating resurrection life. He's not nervous about your next scan—He's celebrating the LIFE coursing through you right this second.
