"My body is betraying me, proving I wasn't disciplined or careful enough."
How it sounds in your head: Other men your age are healthier because they took better care of themselves. Maybe if you'd exercised more, eaten better, avoided certain habits, you wouldn't be in this condition. Your body's failure is your fault.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day."
-- 2 Corinthians 4:16Religion's lie that physical health is a direct result of personal discipline, creating condemnation instead of recognizing bodies are temporal tents awaiting glorification.
You see contemporaries golfing and traveling while you're bedridden. Health magazines and wellness culture preach that 'you have control,' making your decline feel like personal failure rather than mortality's reality.
Paul had a 'thorn in the flesh'—likely a chronic physical ailment—that God refused to remove despite Paul's prayers. Yet Paul wrote most of the New Testament, planted churches across the empire, and finished strong. His body's weakness didn't disqualify him.
I REFUSE the lie that my body's decline is failure or proof I wasn't disciplined enough. IT IS WRITTEN that though my outward man is perishing, my inward man is being renewed day by day. This body was always a temporary tent, and its mortality is not condemnation but TRANSITION. IT IS WRITTEN that I have a building from God, eternal in the heavens, and this failing tent is simply giving way to something GLORIOUS. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing covers me in sickness and in health. My Father doesn't condemn me for having a mortal body—He's preparing to give me an IMMORTAL one.
Your Father isn't disappointed that your tent is folding—He's excitedly preparing your eternal mansion, and every physical limitation reminds you that this was NEVER your real home. The prodigal came home broken and limping, and the Father didn't critique his health—He threw a party because His son was COMING HOME.
