"My athletic abilities are declining. I'll never perform like I did in college again."

How it sounds in your head: I used to dunk, run fast, dominate physically. Now I'm slower, less explosive, less athletic. That peak performance is gone. The best I can do is slow the decline and accept that my athletic prime is behind me.

Psalm 92:12-14

"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."

-- Psalm 92:12-14
Enemy whispers: Your best athletic performance is behind you permanently. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Psalm 92:12-14 - The righteous shall FLOURISH... they shall still bear fruit in OLD AGE; they shall be FRESH and FLOURISHING. Not 'declining gracefully'—FLOURISHING. Still bearing fruit. Still FRESH. You're not on a downward trajectory. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 40:31 - Those who wait on the LORD shall RENEW their strength... they shall RUN and not be weary. RENEW means you get it BACK and MORE. Your athletic prime is not behind you—it's right NOW and it's AHEAD of you.
Quick Truth: LIE: Athletic prime is behind me. TRUTH: Righteous flourish, are fresh and flourishing in old age. Psalm 92:14

Source: Sports culture that worships youth and discards aged athletes, enemy stealing confidence in physical strength, worldly system that programs decline.

Why this feels true:

You measure yourself against your 21-year-old performance and come up short. Professional athletes peak young and decline. You feel the difference. The gap between then and now seems to widen.

1 Chronicles 29:28
David

David died at a good old age, FULL OF DAYS, riches, and honor—he was still FULL at the end, not depleted. He didn't decline into weakness. He finished FULL of strength, resources, and glory. The blessing sustained him in FULLNESS to the end.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that my athletic peak is behind me. IT IS WRITTEN: The righteous flourish and are FRESH and FLOURISHING in old age. At 27, I'm not declining—I'm FLOURISHING. Those who wait on the LORD renew their strength and RUN and not be weary. RENEW means I get my athletic ability BACK and INCREASED. IT IS WRITTEN that I am redeemed from the curse of weakness and decline. David finished FULL OF DAYS—full, not empty. I don't peak and decline; I increase from glory to glory. My strength, speed, and athletic ability are under the BARAK blessing. I am getting BETTER, faster, stronger because resurrection life flows through my muscles. My best performance is NOW and AHEAD.

But God actually:

The Father isn't nostalgic for your college athletic days—He's excited about what He's doing in your body RIGHT NOW. He's not waiting for you to train harder to earn His strength; He's freely pouring power into you because you're His son and He loves seeing you move in strength and dominance.
