"My addiction relapse means I'm back at square one with God"
How it sounds in your head: I made it three months and then fell again. All that progress, all those prayers—wasted. I feel like I'm disappointing God over and over. Maybe I'm just not strong enough to be free. Maybe this is just who I am.
"Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me."
-- Micah 7:8Source: Performance-based spirituality that treats sanctification like a video game where one failure sends you back to the beginning, losing all progress.
The relapse feels like proof she's failing at Christianity, and the shame spiral makes her avoid God right when she needs Him most. The pattern of fall-and-restart makes freedom feel impossible.
Peter denied Jesus three times after promising he'd die with Him—epic failure at his moment of testing. Jesus didn't make him re-earn his apostleship; He cooked him BREAKFAST and recommissioned him immediately. Same calling, same authority, zero probation period.
I REFUSE the lie that relapse sends me back to square one with God. IT IS WRITTEN that when I fall, I WILL ARISE—not restart, not re-earn, but ARISE from where I am. My position in Christ never changed; I am SEATED with Him in heavenly places regardless of my behavior. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:38-39 that NOTHING can separate me from the love of God. My struggle with addiction doesn't change my standing; I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The BARAK blessing flows through covenant, not consistency. Freedom is my inheritance, and I receive it NOW.
The Father isn't counting your falls or tracking your 'days clean' like a disappointed sponsor—He's reaching into the pit every single time with the same love, the same acceptance, the same 'you are MINE.' Your relapse didn't surprise Him or change His mind about you.
