"Money is the root of all evil, so wanting financial success means I'm worldly and backslidden."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I check my bank account or think about salary negotiations, I feel guilty. My Christian friends work nonprofit jobs and seem more spiritual. I'm choosing between following God and providing for my future family.
"For the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
-- 1 Timothy 6:10Religion twisted 1 Timothy 6:10, removing 'love of' to make money itself evil instead of the heart attitude toward it.
Every sermon on money ends with giving more away. Successful Christian businessmen always apologize for their wealth before sharing testimonies, like prosperity is something to be ashamed of rather than stewarded.
Abraham was 'very rich in livestock, silver, and gold' - this is stated as fact, not apologized for. When he lied twice to protect himself, God still made him wealthier through the situations and called him 'friend of God' - the blessing wasn't conditional on perfect character.
I REFUSE the lie that money is evil or that desiring provision makes me carnal. IT IS WRITTEN that the love of money - not money itself - is the root of evil. I am Abraham's seed through Christ, heir according to promise, and the BARAK blessing that made Abraham extremely wealthy is mine by covenant, not behavior. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me richly all things to enjoy. I am not worldly for stewarding resources - I am positioned to be a conduit of Kingdom provision. The same God who provided gold and silver for the tabernacle provides abundantly for me.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to become 'spiritual enough' to deserve provision - He already commanded the blessing on your storehouses because you're IN CHRIST. He's running toward you with the fatted calf, the robe, and the ring of authority that includes financial stewardship, not because you earned it but because you're His son.
