"Mental illness and suicide have claimed multiple family members—I'm fighting a curse I can't break."
How it sounds in your head: Your cousin took his life at twenty-eight. Your aunt at fifty-two. Your brother battles severe depression. You've had your own dark nights where you understood why they gave up. It feels like a familial madness you're all infected with, and you're terrified you'll be next.
"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death."
-- Romans 8:2Source: Enemy using tragedy and mental health history to create a fatalistic inevitability around self-destruction.
She's been to three family funerals for suicide. She knows the statistics about genetic mental illness. She feels the same darkness they did and wonders if she's just delaying the inevitable.
Elijah was so depressed he asked God to let him die—'Take my life, I've had enough.' Suicidal ideation from a prophet of God. God didn't condemn him or tell him to try harder. He sent an angel with FOOD, let him sleep, and gave him a NEW ASSIGNMENT. Depression didn't disqualify him—God met him in it.
I REFUSE the lie that suicide is my family destiny. IT IS WRITTEN: The law of the Spirit of LIFE has made me FREE from the law of sin and DEATH—I am not bound to my family's tragic pattern. My cousin's death, my aunt's death, my brother's battle do NOT define my future. IT IS WRITTEN: The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but JESUS came to give me ABUNDANT LIFE. The BARAK blessing of mental soundness, hope, joy, and LIFE is mine by COVENANT. I am not fighting a curse I can't break—I am FREE.
Your Father isn't watching you spiral, wondering if you'll be next. He's already running toward you with the robe of LIFE and declaring: 'Your family's deaths were the enemy's work—YOUR story is MINE to write, and I write LIFE, not death.'
