"Kingdom wealth is only about giving everything away and staying poor to stay pure."
How it sounds in your head: I've heard 'rich young ruler' preached a hundred times—seems like Jesus wants me broke and giving everything away to prove I love Him.
"And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day."
-- Deuteronomy 8:18Religious poverty spirit twisting one specific conversation into universal command, enemy stealing inheritance.
Every message on wealth ends with 'sell everything' and stories of missionaries who gave it all up, making poverty seem like the only pure path.
Lydia was a successful businesswoman selling purple cloth (expensive luxury goods), became a believer, and immediately used her wealth to host Paul and his team—God opened her heart AND her business funded the gospel. Wealth and ministry weren't opposed; they partnered.
I REFUSE the lie that Kingdom wealth means staying poor. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me POWER to get wealth to establish His covenant (Deut 8:18). Poverty is not purity—Jesus became poor so I could be RICH (2 Cor 8:9). IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord has PLEASURE in my prosperity (Ps 35:27). I am blessed to BE a blessing, not cursed to stay broke. The BARAK blessing makes me the head, not the tail; I lend and do not borrow (Deut 28:12-13). Joseph of Arimathea was wealthy and honored Jesus. Lydia funded the gospel with her business. I steward abundance for Kingdom advancement, not scraping by to prove holiness. My provision glorifies God because it demonstrates His goodness and covenant faithfulness.
The Father doesn't demand poverty to prove your love—He empowers wealth to display His goodness through you. Like the prodigal, you're given abundance to enjoy AND share, not stripped bare to stay 'humble.'
