"Keeping walls up protects me from ever feeling this pain again"
How it sounds in your head: If I never let anyone close, they can't destroy me like this again. Distance equals safety. Numb is better than hurt. I'll be friendly but never vulnerable—that's the smart way to live.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
-- 2 Timothy 1:7Enemy selling emotional prison as protection, trading connection for control through isolation
The walls genuinely DO prevent vulnerability pain in the short term, so they feel effective. The ache of loneliness seems more manageable than the terror of betrayal.
This woman had been betrayed by FIVE husbands and was living with a sixth man—she came to the well at noon to AVOID people because of shame and walls. Jesus broke through her defenses in one conversation, and she immediately ran to tell the WHOLE TOWN, walls demolished by one encounter with real love.
I REFUSE the lie that walls protect me! IT IS WRITTEN that God has not given me a spirit of fear but of POWER, LOVE, and a SOUND MIND. These walls were built by fear, not by wisdom. The Father isn't asking me to be reckless with my heart—He's teaching me divine discernment while dismantling unnecessary barriers. I am covered by the Abrahamic blessing that protects me better than any wall I could build. IT IS WRITTEN that perfect love casts out fear, and His perfect love is demolishing these walls brick by brick. I am SAFE in Him, POWERFUL in His strength, and FREE to connect without compromising my protection. Vulnerability with the RIGHT people is the pathway to the abundant life Jesus promised.
The Father sees you behind those walls and He's not demanding you tear them down to prove you trust Him—He's standing guard OUTSIDE them while gently showing you they're blocking the beautiful friendships He's already cleared for safety. He's not asking you to be vulnerable with everyone; He's asking you to be vulnerable with HIM first.
