"Jesus was poor, so following Him means accepting lack."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus had nowhere to lay His head. He lived simply, owned nothing. If I'm truly following Him, I should expect the same—comfort and provision aren't the Christian way. Sacrifice and suffering are.
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."
-- 2 Corinthians 8:9Religious misinterpretation ignoring that Jesus had a treasurer, was supported by wealthy women, and wore seamless robes valuable enough for soldiers to gamble over.
Scripture says foxes have holes but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. She's been taught that Jesus modeled poverty and so should she, especially in her twilight years when she should be focused on sacrifice, not comfort.
A rich man and a disciple of Jesus—his wealth didn't disqualify his devotion. He used his resources to provide Jesus a tomb, proving that following Christ doesn't require poverty; it often requires provision to advance the Kingdom.
I REFUSE the lie that following Jesus means accepting lack. IT IS WRITTEN that though He was rich, He became poor so that I through His poverty might become RICH. His sacrifice purchased my abundance; I don't honor it by staying poor. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:10 that Jesus came to give me life MORE ABUNDANTLY—not scarcity, not just enough, but ABUNDANCE. I am a branch connected to the Vine, and the Vine produces abundance naturally. The barak blessing flows through me because I'm Abraham's seed, and that blessing included being the head, not the tail, lending and not borrowing.
Your Father sent wise men with GOLD to the manger—He's been funding your life from the beginning. Jesus became poor for three years so you could be rich for eternity, starting NOW.
