"I've seen too much hypocrisy in the church to believe Christianity is true."
How it sounds in your head: The most vocal Christians are often the most toxic. Abusers hide behind pulpits. Church people are judgmental, greedy, political. If this is what Christianity produces, maybe the whole thing is rotten. You can't separate the message from the messengers.
"And the LORD said to Samuel, 'Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them.'"
-- 1 Samuel 8:7Enemy using wounded believers' failures to discredit Christ Himself, shifting focus from Savior to saints.
You've been genuinely hurt by Christians who claimed to represent Christ but acted nothing like Him. The gap between what they preached and how they lived created legitimate trauma, and returning feels like volunteering for more abuse.
God's own prophet became angry, racist, and suicidal after obeying God, wished death on converts, and valued a plant over human souls. God used him powerfully despite his toxicity and patiently corrected his heart without disqualifying him.
I REFUSE the lie that Christians' hypocrisy invalidates Christ's truth. IT IS WRITTEN that they rejected God through rejecting His representatives, but God remained faithful. I have been wounded by religious people, and that wound is real—but their failure does not define His character. IT IS WRITTEN that we are earthen vessels carrying treasure, and the cracks in the vessel don't diminish the worth of what's inside. I declare I will judge Christ by His own words and works, not by the worst examples of those who claim His name. The Father's goodness is not on trial because His children failed to represent Him accurately.
The Father is grieved by how His children have misrepresented Him and wounded you in His name. He's inviting you to encounter Him directly, not through the filter of broken people, and discover He's nothing like the religious hypocrites.
