"I've disqualified myself through years of doubt—God stopped listening to my prayers long ago."
How it sounds in your head: I've doubted so many times over the decades that God probably tunes me out now. I had chances to believe purely and I blew them. Why would He still hear someone who's wavered this much?
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
-- Hebrews 4:16Source: Religious teaching that God's ears are closed to doubters and that there's a limit to His patience with weak faith.
Decades of internal doubt battles make him feel like he's exhausted God's grace. He assumes God operates on a 'three strikes you're out' system and he's had hundreds of strikes.
John the Baptist, the greatest prophet born of women according to Jesus, sent messengers from prison asking 'Are You really the Christ, or should we look for another?'—direct doubt. Jesus didn't rebuke him; He sent proof and called him the greatest prophet anyway.
I REFUSE the lie that I've disqualified myself through doubt. IT IS WRITTEN that I can come BOLDLY to the throne of grace—not timidly, not disqualified, but BOLD. Even John the Baptist doubted Jesus' identity from prison, and Jesus sent confirmation instead of condemnation. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO condemnation for those in Christ—none for decades of doubt, none for wavering faith, NONE. God's ears aren't closed; His arms are OPEN. I am Abraham's seed, and the barak protected doubters by covenant. I approach God as RIGHTEOUS because I'm IN CHRIST.
The Father hasn't stopped listening—He's been leaning in closer with every doubt-filled prayer, waiting to reveal His faithfulness. Like the prodigal's father who never stopped watching the road despite years of silence, God has never tuned you out.
